Tax Stress This is a story about a client of mine.I was talking with this lady and mentioned that I did taxes for people, and I was invited over to work on her taxes. While we were at her place, she informed me that she had not done her taxes for the previous two years as well. She had various things that she did not how to deal with, so instead she just put it in boxes in her closet. Like many people I meet, they put off dealing with something, hoping that it will go away. But, the reality is that the longer you leave it, the more anxiety it causes.
So, I said "Why don't you just put the boxes in the trunk of my car." And she did. I took them home and worked out her taxes for her. I got her up to date. The demon in her closet was gone, and a big stress was lifted from her life.
After This story is not about earning huge refunds, it is more about taking care of that which was causing stress in her life. Whenever I talk with people and they seem depressed about finances, I ask them if they have done their taxes yet. I often find that it is not as bad as it seems, and I can help people sort it out. Helping people in difficulty, is the part of my work I really enjoy. I like being the person who helps take the stress away.
Going back over previous years, I can sometimes find there was money to be had that they missed. I can make a simple adjustment to a previous year's return, and get a refund, or perhaps reduce the amount owing to CCRA.
So, have you done your taxes yet? |
